Round 6 of this year’s “Mysterious Slovakia” competition has just launched! This time, our microphone takes us to central Slovakia and the historic royal town of Banská Štiavnica — a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its rich medieval mining legacy, ingenious tajchy reservoir system, and the founding of the world’s very first mining academy.
We’ll venture into tunnels that stretch hundreds of metres below the surface, and uncover how the town’s gold- and silver-rich past left a lasting imprint on the local landscape. This episode was prepared by our colleague Sofia Miklovic.
