Voters are sceptical about politicians‘ accountability

Only 2 percent of Slovaks think that politicians always have to face the consequences of their illegal activities, according to a survey done by Focus agency for the 'Jingle for Change' initiative, which advocates measures to fight corruption. More than three quarters of the respondents think that legal liability for politicians is drawn only in a very limited number of cases or never, while 15 percent think that it's done in most such cases. People in the age category 35-44 were the most sceptical about politicians' responsibility with 84 percent of them saying that there's little or no liability at all. Three quarters of respondents replied that the police, the prosecutor's offices and courts do not act independently of politicians in cases of their illegal behaviour. Slovaks are called to elect their 150 MPs in general elections scheduled for March 5.
