Employment in Slovak Industry Continued Falling in July

Employment in industry in Slovakia in July decreased by 1.1 percent, this being the sixteenth consecutive monthly drop of employment in industry. As the Statistics Office further announced on Wednesday, employment fell most in yearly terms in the construction sector, by 4.8 percent. Employment decreased by 3.7 percent in information and communication activity, by 0.3 percent in wholesale and by 0.1 percent in retail trade.

On the other hand, employment grew most in July in selected market services, where compared with July of last year it increased by 5.3 percent. Employment also increased year-on-year in transport and storage by about 3.3 percent, in accommodation services by 2.6 percent, and in food and beverage services by 1.6 percent. It decreased in the construction sector by 5 percent, in industry by 1.5 percent, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 0.6 percent, in wholesale by 0.4 percent and in retail trade by 0.3 percent.
