Slovakia in top ten destinations for adventure holidays

The British daily The Guardian has ranked Slovakia's High Tatra mountains among the top ten best adventure holidays in Europe. According to the author of the story, Jane Dunford, mountain walkers are recommended to try Slovakia's High Tatra mountains as a less expensive alternative to the Swiss Alps. "Marked trails offer dramatic walks with twenty summits of over 2,500 meters in just 26 kilometres. The soaring views of rocky peaks, lush valleys and sparkling lakes are reward for burning thigh muscles", she writes.

Other winners in the daily's top ten were horse-riding in Turkey, trekking in the Balkans, wildlife adventures in Spain, cycling in Romania, sea kayaking in Estonia, canyoning in Corsica, diving and trekking in Iceland, a road trip in Norway, and ice climbing in Switzerland.

Slovakia is no stranger to leading in travel destination lists, being regularly considered a relatively undiscovered travel destination. In April 2015 the country found itself in first place in a list of "10 Underrated Travel Destinations in Europe", and the travel resource Lonely Planet regularly includes Slovak landmarks in lists of recommended destinations.
