Big interest in postal voting among Slovaks living abroad

A totalof 1,173 Slovak citizens living abroad have registered to vote via post in the upcoming general elections scheduled for March 5. This figure is approximately one third higher than at the previous parliamentary elections in 2012. The deadline for submitting the request to the Department for the Elections at the Interior Ministry was last Friday. However, the number of applications may increase slightly if some voters send to the Ministry of Interior additionally requested documents necessary to vote by mail, such as copies of travel documents.

Slovaks living permanently in the Czech Republic are the biggest group among those asking to vote by post, followed by voters residing in Germany, Austria, Great Britain and Switzerland. The Interior Ministry received about 50 requests for election by mail from the United States and 40 from the United Arab Emirates. Slovak citizens residing in Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, and Barbados will also cast their ballot in this election.
