The year 2015 marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ľudovít Štúr - the 19th century Slovak politician, revivalist, journalist, linguist and educator. On 12 January 2016, Slovakia commemorated another anniversary connected to one of its most important personalities - 160 years since Ľudovít Štúr's tragic death. Štúr suffered a fatal injury on 22 December, 1855, during a small pre-Christmas hunt in the forests near the town of Modra, when he allegedly shot himself in the leg. He died on 12 January 1856 in Modra. Despite precise documentation on this unfortunate accident, there are still several conspiracy theories, including the consideration of a possible suicide. The bygone Year of Ľudovít Štúr, which was pronounced by Slovak state authorities and cultural institutions for 2015, will officially conclude on Sunday, 17 January, in Modra, with celebrations in the Lutheran church, a new exhibit at the Museum of Ľudovít Štúr, a stylized historical pageant through the town and a solemn remembrance at the local cemetery.
