Professionals from all over the world are applying to Slovak employers for jobs, but it can take several months and cost hundreds of euro to find a suitable applicant to hire, Hospodárske Noviny daily brings the story. "We consider the biggest obstacle in hiring foreigners from mainly third world countries to be a protracted and legislatively and financially complicated process of acquiring work permits and temporary residence with employment as the aim," says Petra Sedliačiková, HR manager of Slovak IT company Pantheon Technologies. They have professionals from Argentina, the UK, but also Ukraine, Russia, Egypt and Pakistan. Slovak legislation brings various complications in hiring such nationals, however. "Due to increased work with the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (UPSVaR) and the Foreign Police, this process is prolonged by several months, which results in complications in regards to planning and timing individual projects vis-a-vis our employees," said Sedliačiková. Moreover the costs of the process reach hundreds of euro.
"Accepting employees from abroad may be subjected to a long administrative process," said Katarina Klembalová, PR manager of the job website Profesia. The rising trend in migration has brought many people from abroad who now work in Slovakia in various posts. These range from assistance jobs in manufacturing to work for global corporations and shared services centres, said Klembalová. The conditions for employing people from non-EU countries were last amended at the beginning of 2014. The state regards this as streamlining the process. A more effective process has been introduced for these people in receiving residence permits and work permits, as they now get it in one place, says Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry spokesman Michal Stuška.
