Energy union, innovations, the eurozone, the British referendum on leaving the EU and the ongoing migration crisis as well as the EU's role in resolving it are the main topics of the fourth international Tatra Summit in Bratislava, which began on Wednesday and will last until Friday (November 6). This conference, organised by the Centre for European Affairs, is an economic version of the Globsec security conference. It's part of the Central European Strategy Council and features discussions on Slovakia's presidency of the Council of the European Union scheduled for the latter half of 2016.
Wednesday's panel discussions were dedicated to migration and security, solidarity and the situation on the Schengen zone's external borders. Moreover, it touched on the fact that the EU still faces unresolved problems concerning the eurozone crisis, energy security, increasing mistrust of European institutions and the rise of nationalist tendencies. One of the pivotal topics of the Tatra Summit is the deepening of integration and improving eurozone institutions. European Commission vice-president Maroš Šefčovič is also attending the conference speaking about the Energy Union, the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and energy efficiency. Another part of the Tatra Summit is the Investment Forum, which deals with the challenges connected to investments in the real economy and innovations. The debate is also focusing on the development of startup companies. Among the officials attending the summit are also Slovak President Andrej Kiska, Finance Minister Peter Kažimír, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák, Economy Minister Vazil Hudák and European Investment Bank president Werner Hoyer.
