The Christian Democrats (KDH) can imagine creating the basis of the next government with Most-Hid and Sieť, party representatives announced on Monday in response to Most-Hid's call for the trio to cooperate as an alternative to the governing Smer-SD party after next spring's elections. "These are parties that are close in terms of values, and I think that in the upcoming period they would be able to create an alternative to the socialists that are governing at the moment and to the corruption that is spreading in Slovakia", said Christian Democrats' caucus chairman Pavol Abrhan.
Earlier on Monday, Most-Hid representatives announced at a press conference that they can see an alternative to Smer-SD in cooperating with Christian Democrats and Sieť. Their chairman Béla Bugár asked for a clear statement from the two parties on whether they want to join the said alternative. He stressed that no written commitment or pre-election coalition is in the frame. "We're only asking these parties to state whether they are able to cooperate after the election and to create the basis of the next government. I know that the poll results concerning these three parties show they can't threaten Smer-SD in an election as things stand, but I believe that a common aim and attitude among the trio may encourage voters, meaning that this alternative could bring a better election result", said Bugár.
