On October 3rd in Bratislava, at the age of 93 years died the sculptor and national artist Tibor Bartfay.He was born in Nitra as a son of the famous Slovak sculptor Július Bartfay. Tibor Bartfay belonged among important personalities of Slovak art and modern sculpture - in both intimate and monumental art. He created more than 30 memorials, more than 2000 sculptures and more than 600 of portraits, as well as a number of commemorative medals and reliefs. One of his best known pieces is the fountain "Planet of peace" located in front of the Presidential palace in Bratislava. His work has caught interest both in domestic and foreign exhibitions, e.g. in France, Germany, Japan and the USA. Thanks to his work he has received a number of prestigious awards. In 1985 he was awarded the UNESCO Prize for his humane approach to life, and a year later he received the Medal of the World Peace Council. In 1997, his name was on the list of the most important personalities of world culture and arts.
