Austrian migrant camp being built next to Slovak border

Austria is building a temporary camp for migrants about 150 meters away from the Slovak border and 4.5 km away from the centre of Bratislava in order to relieve the camp in Traiskirchen near Vienna which is no longer able to cope with the influx of refugees. "The facility should shelter refugees for a short period of time. There will be 40 to 60 people", said Gerhard Schödinger, mayor of the neighbouring village Wolfstahl, to the news website aktuality.sk. The camp near the town of Berg will be composed of container houses and the first refugees are expected to arrive in the coming days. The Slovak Interior Ministry did not have any official information on Tuesday. "In the case of a decision of a sovereign state or its organisation to establish a temporary camp on its territory, the Slovak Republic cannot and does not want to intervene into these affairs. However, with regard to this fact we will adopt appropriate security measures as we have already been doing, given the current wave of migration", said Michaela Paulenová from the ministry's press service. Paulenová added that, "If people who are seeking asylum in Austria and who are placed in Austrian facilities get to Slovakia, they will be detained. Slovakia will return them to Austria". Paulenová further explained that the ministry has not yet received first-hand information on the building of the facility. According to aktuality.sk, the camp was originally to be erected in the nearby town of Marchegg, but a groundswell of opposition from local residents thwarted the plans.
