We will provide shelter in Slovakia to 100 people - Christian families from Syria that we will select in Italy and Greece, Prime Minister Robert Fico informed after the Cabinet's meeting on Tuesday. This is Slovakia's contribution to the distribution of 40,000 migrants, pledged by EU leaders at the summit in Brussels in late June. At Monday's meeting, EU interior ministers agreed on the distribution of 32,256 migrants in the next two years. Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák expects that Slovakia could receive the first fifty migrants next year and 50 more in 2017. According to Kaliňák these 100 migrants will have to undergo identification procedures and pass security clearance. At the same time the migrants will be selected who will be able to integrate into society, in which they are to be helped by Christian and charitable organizations.
Also on Tuesday, Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and his Austrian counterpart Johanna Mikl-Leitner signed an agreement on the temporary accommodation of 500 asylum seekers in Austria. They will arrive to Gabčíkovo from the overcrowded camp in the Austrian town of Traiskirchen. "The Slovak side will provide accommodation capacities at a residential facility for a maximum of 500 applicants under the terms of this Memorandum of Understanding. The allocation of applicants will be carried out gradually, according to an agreement between the [two] sides. The total number of applicants accepted by the accommodation facility may be increased after the departure of accepted applicants, but their number should not exceed 500 at any one time", states the memorandum. Slovakia will provide the applicants with accommodation and food. "Slovakia will pay all the expenditures arising from meeting its commitment", states the memorandum.
