One in five Slovaks can’t go single day without mobile, PC or web

One in five Slovaks claim that they couldn't live without their mobile, computer or access to the internet even for a single day, according to a recent survey conducted by the Public Affairs Institute (IVO). Digital addiction puts at risk especially people up to 34 years of age, with a university degree, entrepreneurs and people who work with their minds. "The fact that one in five people say they couldn't live or be without access to the internet or their computer or smartphone even for a single day makes it clear enough that we should address this situation somehow and, at the very least, discuss it," said the project's author Marián Velšic. "The fact that something isn't quite right may be evidenced by a person searching for Wi-Fi access first thing on holiday," said Velšic. Internet or mobile addiction can impair concentration, work performance or trigger headaches or insomnia. Most often, Slovaks spend between one or two hours a day using the internet. More than one third devote over three hours daily to it.
