Acting legend Ladislav Chudík dies at 91

Actor and a long-term member of the Slovak National Theatre Ladislav Chudík died on Monday at the age of 91. Throughout his illustrious career spanning six decades as a theatre and film actor, Chudík brought to life a great number of characters. He was also decorated with many awards in the field of culture, including the highest state 1st Class Ľudovít Štúr Order in 1999. In response, the Culture Ministry released a condolence statement over Chudík 's death. "Maestro Chudík not only belonged to a golden generation of actors in our country but was also a distinguished personality with considerable moral credit," reads the text, pointing out that Chudik was also a theatre teacher and first Slovak post-Velvet Revolution culture minister (1989-90). His acting colleague, Eva Krížiková: "He was a big actor and also a big person. He was intelligent, educated, great colleague; I could speak only about positives. We played in many movies together; and he was great in all the roles he played. He belonged to the acting elites we had." The statement from the Culture ministry concludes: "For our country, the loss of such an important personality is irreplaceable. However, his legacy will live on through his movie and TV characters."
