Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that Slovakia wouldn't be affected much by Greece leaving the eurozone, during RTVS's talk show 'Sobotné dialógy' (Saturday Dialogues). "The entire European Union is saying that Greece leaving the eurozone may slow down economic growth. Also for that reason, there is greater interest that Greece would stay in the eurozone rather than leave it. Slovakia, however, isn't that linked to Greece as other countries are. Therefore, Slovakia, with its high economic growth, which may be the highest in the EU next year, wouldn't be significantly affected by 'Grexit'", said Fico.
He reiterated that Greece is expecting a referendum in the coming days, which concerns the euro. "The referendum is about, whether the people agree with a negative package [of measures] that Greece needs to accept, so they can keep the euro. For me, the referendum indicates that the Greeks are preparing to leave the eurozone, which isn't good, because we would like to preserve the eurozone, but not at all costs", said Fico.
"I think it will end up this way: there can be an agreement with the measures. Let's say they will be fulfilled if the people agree with them in the referendum. If the people in Greece won't agree with that in the referendum, then Greece is finished and is leaving the eurozone", said Fico.
