„I will not regret what I do. I think these are historical facts and I find it natural to do this," said Robert Fico after confirming his travel to Moscow on May 9. The Slovak Prime Minister will take part in the official wreath-laying and reception in the Kremlin as parts of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII in Moscow.
The chairman of the Government's Foreign Committee Frantisek Sebej welcomes the Prime minister's decision not to take part in the troop review as part of Moscow's WWII celebrations. At the same time Sebej has added that the Prime Minister should not be attending the event at all due to the current situation in Ukraine. "The fact that he will be at the reception in the Kremlin is as comparably controversial as the troop-review albeit not that much," stated Frantisek Sebej.
The celebrations of the end of WWII in Moscow might be attended also by the Czech President Milos Zeman and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un. The non-attendees include the Slovak President Andrej Kiska and the British Prime Minister David Cameron, among others.
Until now the Slovak Prime Minister has refrained from providing any clear information on whether he would participate in the celebrations in Moscow or to what extent. He simply stated that he'd find the most suitable way to commemorate the victims of the Second World War.
