A new law is currently under construction, supported by the 10 biggest sporting associations having been triggered by athletes themselves. The law should come into force as of January 1st, 2016 and it should be based on transparency; offering the same rules for all as well as public control. To secure this, several measures are expected to be taken. The first one is an information system which will include information on associations, clubs, athletes, trainers, but also on financing. The education and sport minister Juraj Draxler explained: " So the members of the associations could react immediately as soon as there is a non-standard situation."
The new law is supposed to let the associations be more autonomous but, at the same time, be better controlled. Peter Pellegrini, the parliamentary chairman: " Today, we witness the situation when sport events' organisers go for subsidies from the Tipos state lottery, later on to the Education and Sport Ministry, then to local municipality and finally, they ask for money from some private sponsors. In fact, we never know how much financial means were provided for sporting events."
The new act should establish also the position of an association supervisor, a special sports court and even a sports fund. The Slovak Olympic Committee General Secretary Jozef Liba believes: " That everybody takes concern in consolidating the situation so to avoid problems with which individual sport subjects are dealing. When this is solved, the money will come." According to Jozef Liba, Slovakia is lagging behind in the support to the young. He thinks that the new act should focus on this category so the youth would be motivated to take part in sports.
The preparation of the new legal norm on sport has been welcomed both by the biggest and the most successful albeit smaller sport associations.
