Slovakia's judiciary will receive more financial resources next year, announced Finance Minister Peter Kažimír, adding that he expects Justice Minister Tomaš Borec to carry out measures to save funds too. The two discussed granting additional money to the judicial sector following a one-day warning strike of court employees, excluding judges, on February 19. Court employees are demanding that their monthly salaries are increased and the budget of the ministry is boosted by €75 million. If their demands aren't met by April 10, they are ready to carry out a full-blown strike.
Kažimír said that the decision on salary requirements of the court staff will be up to Borec himself. "This is an agenda pertaining to the justice sector and the justice minister and I will expect of the minister to come up with proposals on the internal re-allocation of financial resources, which means savings within the sector that could then be used to increase salaries, for example", stated the finance minister.
