Who are the richest people in Slovakia? That's the question people have been asking since the release of Forbes' annual list of the world's richest people earlier this month. While that list did not include any Slovak citizens this time around, Slovakia isn't without its own Donald Trumps and Richard Bransons, as Forbes' regional rich list explained.
Ivan Chrenko tops the list of the country's wealthiest individuals with assets valued at €650 million, most of which stems from commercial real estate and development. The 49 year old is immensely private; often avoiding the media and keeping his photos private to eliminate the need for a security guard. Chrenko is a partner of the development company behind the Aupark shopping centre in Bratislava and the Apollo business centre.
Jaroslav Haščák is the second on Slovakia's own rich list with assets worth €500 million. The 43 year old is one of five partners of the Penta financial group, with his name becoming associated in the seemingly never-ending Gorila corruption case. Penta is active in property development as well as owning sizeable shares in Slovak news outlets.
Martin Kúšik comes in third place, with the 43 year old owning €420 million in assets. Kúšik rose to wealth as one of five founders of the aforementioned company Penta, to which he remains a co-owner.
Jozef and Patrik Tkáč share fourth place, with the father and son enjoying assets worth €380 million. Jozef (62) played a role in the State Bank of Czechoslovakia during the 1980s, moving into private banking after the fall of the iron curtain. Patrik (39) co-launched the J&T financial group, which invests in numerous areas of industry. Patrik's launch partner of the firm J&T was Ivan Jakabovič who completes this top-five list, being the country's fifth richest person, at age 43.
