Greece must leave Eurozone, says Slovak MEP

Greece has no chance to survive in the eurozone, and what should have been done five years ago, i.e. providing for its exit, must be done now, Member of European Parliament Richard Sulík (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS party) stated at a press conference on Tuesday. "It's necessary to pluck up the courage to bite the bullet, allow Greece to announce default and, most of all, Greece must leave the eurozone", said Sulík. The MEP at the same time called on Premier Robert Fico to behave like a statesman and reject the option of money passing from Slovakia to Greece. "I'm calling on Robert Fico finally to behave like a statesman and protect Slovakia's interests. It certainly isn't in Slovakia's interests to send €1.3 billion to Greece", said Sulík. Sulík pointed out that he warned about such a development concerning Greece as early as when its problems emerged. According to him, the bailout wasn't about saving Greece, which has seen its debt rise from 120 percent of GDP to 175 percent of GDP, but about saving German and French banks. "I also warned against the possible emergence of a self-confident and daring leftist government [in Greece] that would reject the prescribed austerity. This is precisely what's currently taking place", said Sulík.
