MPs should have their own Code of Conduct that would regulate their behaviour in Parliament and during meetings with lobbyists; Parliamentary Chair Peter Pellegrini has told TASR. "I believe that it might be useful to have a Code of Conduct that would detail the expected behaviour of lawmakers not only during voting, but also when expressing themselves or in conflict of interest situations. Also, when meeting certain interest groups, for instance, lawmakers shouldn't accept gifts," said Pellegrini, adding that the document should offer an ethical and moral framework.
More comprehensive tax declarations for public officials are also still in the game. Although not slated to be ushered in as of January 2015 anymore, Parliamentary Chairman Peter Pellegrini wants to have them passed over the course of 2015. The motion to introduce more comprehensive tax declarations for public officials was tabled in Parliament, yet it ended up withdrawn by its opposition submitters. Further rounds of talks on the matter are expected. Seeing as the legislation hasn't been passed yet, public officials will submit their tax declarations this year as before. In the current form, it is not determined whether they acquired their property while serving in public posts or whether they accepted gifts exceeding €4,000. They also won't have to detail their property.
