Slovakia is disappointed that the detained Afghan soldier allegedly behind the attack on Slovak troops in Kandahar on July 9 managed to escape from prison, Deputy Foreign Minister Peter Burian told Afghan charge d'affaires for Slovakia Abdul Wahab Arian. The 35-year old sergeant Daniel Kavuliak was killed in the attack and six other Slovak soldiers were injured. The attacker was arrested immediately but managed to escape on Sunday, allegedly with the help of another fellow soldier who was supposed to escort him to a military hospital.
Slovakia asked the Afghan Government to take all the necessary measures to re-arrest the attacker and hand him over to justice. "We insist on launching a thorough investigation of the attack. We believe that the Afghan Government is responsible for the security of the institutions and individuals providing assistance to the country," said Burian. The Afghan charge d'affaires for Slovakia Abdul Wahab Arian says he is aware of the fact that such incidents harm the good relations between the two countries. "Afghanistan appreciates the help provided by Slovakia," said Arian.
