Former Army’s Intelligence Service Head Facing Charges

The Special Prosecutor's Office has pressed charges against former director of the Army‘s Intelligence Service Roman Mikulec and a former lieutenant in the service Katarina Svrcekova.  On Saturday police searched Mikulec's car where they reportedly found classified documents. He was arrested the same day and kept in custody for a night then released. The police have refused to disclose any further information.

While he was leading the Army’s Intelligence Service, Mikulec launched an investigation into a scandal related to property transfers which took place between 2007-2010. In mid-June the former intelligence officer Svrcekova made public statements about being bullied and intimidated for being Mikulec’s girlfriend. Now both claim that the charges are just another attempt to intimidate them in connection to the same scandal at the Army’s Intelligence Office.
