Slovakia Promoted UN Security Council Bid

Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár presented Slovakia’s priorities ahead of the 81st UN General Assembly during a meeting with foreign diplomats in Bratislava on Tuesday. The main focus was Slovakia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2028 and 2029.

Slovakia had already secured written support from 123 UN member states. Blanár said the campaign was based on four principles — respect, dialogue, stability and peace — and stressed that Slovakia wanted to contribute actively to international security if elected. Slovakia will continue promoting its candidacy during next week’s UN meetings in New York, where Blanár will join the delegation led by President Peter Pellegrini.
