Main Hearing in Kuciak Murder Case Continues

The main hearing in the Kuciak murder case is continuing at the Specialized Criminal Court in Pezinok. On Tuesday, the court is replaying a press conference held in June 2017, during which investigative journalist Ján Kuciak asked questions of defendant Marian Kočner. The court is also scheduled to replay a phone call between Kočner and Kuciak from September 2017.

Kuciak and his fiancée, Martina Kušnírová, were murdered in February 2018 at their home in Veľká Mača in the Galanta district of southern Slovakia. Marian Kočner and Alena Zsuzsová are charged with ordering the murders.

The Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic has overturned two previous verdicts in the case, which is now being heard for the third time by the Specialized Criminal Court.

The perpetrators, Miroslav Marček and Tomáš Szabó, have already received unconditional 25-year prison sentences. The intermediary, Zoltán Andruskó, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On Monday, the Specialized Criminal Court is also hearing a separate case concerning the preparation of the murders of prosecutors Daniel Lipšic and Maroš Žilinka. In addition to Kočner and Zsuzsová, Dušan Kracina and Darko Dragić are facing charges in that case.
