President Urges Action after Foiled Attack

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has called on the government to address a foiled arson attack on a manufacturing plant in eastern Slovakia, either at its next meeting or at an extraordinary session of the Security Council. He also urged the government to assess the risk of further attacks and adopt measures to strengthen the protection of companies involved in the defence industry.

Pellegrini pointed out that several companies in Slovakia manufacture weapons, defence systems or components that can be used by the arms industry. He said security and intelligence services, together with the owners of these facilities, should take measures to reduce the risk of similar attacks to an absolute minimum.

Police prevented a planned arson attack on a facility producing unmanned systems in Haniska in eastern Slovakia. Three foreign nationals have been charged with preparing the attack, allegedly on someone’s orders. Two were detained in Slovakia, while the third was arrested in Germany under a European arrest warrant.
