Poland expects Slovakia’s presidency of the Visegrad Group to maintain a pragmatic approach and focus on regional cooperation. According to the Polish Foreign Ministry, key areas for V4 cooperation include support for Ukraine, regional energy and infrastructure projects, and coordination of positions within the European Union. Warsaw also highlighted issues such as migration policy, the EU’s next long-term budget, competitiveness, agricultural and industrial policies, and reforms to the European Green Deal.
Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) said Slovakia’s aim is to promote topics that unite V4 countries rather than divide them. He stressed that the group, representing more than 60 million people, has a strong voice within Europe, with Poland playing an important role as a partner for EU countries.
Slovakia took over the V4 presidency on July 1. Its priorities include EU competitiveness, enlargement policy, practical cooperation and closer people-to-people contacts. The presidency runs until June 2027.
