Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Hlas-SD) says a new national strategy for child and youth mental health will be presented within two weeks. The plan, prepared by five ministries, aims to improve prevention and mental health care for young people. Šaško warned that mental health problems among children are increasing and stressed the importance of addressing issues early in families, schools and the online environment.
Children’s Commissioner Jozef Mikloško welcomed the initiative, noting that every fourth or fifth child in Slovakia faces serious mental health difficulties. Experts continue to point to a shortage of child psychiatrists, psychologists and specialised treatment facilities.
