Slovak Armed Forces Increase Monitoring After Drone Strike on Romania

The Slovak Armed Forces say information-sharing and monitoring measures within NATO’s integrated air defence system have been strengthened following a Russian drone strike in Romania. Military spokesman Štefan Zemanovič said similar precautions have been in place since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine. The statement comes after a Russian drone entered Romanian airspace and hit a residential building in the city of Galați, injuring two people.

Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) expressed solidarity with Romania but also called for restraint and warned against escalating tensions. He reiterated his call for immediate dialogue between the European Union and Russia.

Romania’s President has convened the country’s Supreme Council of National Defence to discuss the consequences. The incident was condemned by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
