President Signs Reforms on Money Laundering, Asylum and Digital Services

President Peter Pellegrini has signed several key laws aimed at improving financial transparency, migration rules and public administration. One amendment strengthens measures against money laundering by tightening rules on identifying beneficial owners and aligning Slovakia with international standards set by Moneyval and the Financial Action Task Force. Authorities warned that failing to adopt these changes could risk sanctions or Slovakia being placed on a monitoring “grey list.”

A separate law replaces the asylum framework with a new system of international protection, introducing border asylum procedures and allowing limits on applicants’ movement. The reform reflects recent EU migration policy changes and sets strict deadlines for processing applications.

The President also approved legislation modernising public administration. A new law on document certification aims to clarify outdated rules and improve legal certainty, while amendments to registry laws will reduce bureaucracy and expand digital services, including wider access to electronic documents and civil registry services.
