Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities Alexander Daško praised the employment model of textile company Linora during a visit to Hencovce in eastern Slovakia. The company employs around 300 people, roughly half of them from marginalized Roma communities, and produces women’s tights mainly for export to EU countries and the United Kingdom. Last year, it manufactured approximately 27 million pieces, with turnover reaching 16.5 million euros.
Daško announced that in the upcoming seven-year programming period the government wants to place greater emphasis on supporting the employment of low-qualified Roma workers. Possible measures include co-financing schemes and tax or financial incentives for companies that create sustainable jobs.
Linora representatives stressed that recruitment is not ethnicity-based but depends on applicants’ willingness to work and meet performance standards. The company provides an adaptation period for new employees, particularly those without prior work habits. Daško added that effective solutions will require cooperation between the labor and education ministries, employment offices and private employers.
