Slovak President in India

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini is in India this week, promoting deeper economic ties, artificial intelligence cooperation, and stronger digital protections for children.

In New Delhi, Pellegrini met Indian President Droupadi Murmu. The two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in trade, education and artificial intelligence. Slovakia, he said, is ready to strengthen practical partnerships — including scholarships, student exchanges and collaboration in new technologies. President Murmu visited Slovakia last April.

Artificial intelligence is at the centre of Pellegrini’s trip. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, he announced plans to build Slovakia’s first modern AI data centre in Bratislava. The facility will use advanced chips not yet deployed elsewhere in Europe.

Pellegrini argued that Slovakia’s nuclear and hydro power plants give it a competitive advantage, allowing the country to become a regional hub for digital and computing infrastructure. He stressed that sensitive state data should be stored domestically, rather than in cloud systems located outside Europe.

Economic cooperation is also expanding. Pellegrini confirmed that Slovak rail manufacturer Tatravagonka will build a new factory in India to produce railway components for the Indian market and for export. He noted that India favors joint ventures and local production. Other Slovak high-tech companies are already active in India in areas such as airport security and meteorological systems.

During the summit, Pellegrini also called for banning social media access for children under 15. He said Slovakia should join countries such as France, Spain and Greece, which are preparing similar legislation. According to the president, protecting children’s mental health will require not only legal measures but also cooperation from major technology companies.
