The European Commission (EC) on Friday approved Slovakia’s sixth request for a €591 million payment from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, concluding that the country has satisfactorily met all eight predefined milestones and 11 targets.
“This is a crucial step towards implementing reforms and investments linked to this request in areas such as the business environment, digitisation, education, public administration, the green economy, the labour market, research and healthcare,” the EC Representation in Slovakia said in a statement.
One of the key measures included in the latest request was the establishment of regional centres to support schools. Slovakia has launched 40 curriculum management centres with teams prepared to assist with curriculum reform, improve education quality and support school staff.
“The sixth payment request was extremely demanding, containing 19 milestones and targets, each linked to specific projects, deadlines and responsibilities. This makes the European Commission’s positive assessment even more valuable,” said Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD), who oversees the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for the Recovery Plan and a Knowledge-Based Economy. He thanked all ministries and regional partners involved, calling the result “the product of persistent and honest work”.
Slovakia submitted its sixth payment request in June last year. While the request totalled €683 million, the country will receive a net €591 million after deducting pre-financing. Following this payment, Slovakia will have received more than €4.55 billion of the €6.4 billion allocated under the recovery plan. The government is now awaiting the assessment of its seventh payment request worth €658 million, submitted at the end of November 2025. Two final requests totalling €1.2 billion are expected to be submitted in 2026.
