Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has thanked Slovakia for its solidarity following last week’s deadly attack in Sydney during a phone call with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár. She informed him about ongoing investigations and steps being taken to prevent similar attacks in the future. Blanár expressed condolences once again, noting that the tragedy affected Slovakia deeply as one of the victims was a Slovak woman from the Jewish community with dual Slovak–Australian citizenship. He praised the swift response of Australian authorities and the immediate security measures put in place. Slovakia strongly condemned all forms of antisemitism and offered Australia assistance at any level in combating attacks motivated by religious hatred. Both ministers agreed that the world is facing a serious erosion of international law and stressed the need to reduce global tensions and resolve ongoing conflicts. Wong also welcomed Slovakia’s strengthened diplomatic presence in Australia following the reopening of its embassy in Canberra. The ministers discussed Slovakia’s new strategy for engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, with Blanár confirming Slovakia’s intention to expand cooperation with Indo-Pacific countries both politically and bilaterally.
