Slovakia to Introduce New Fiscal Measures and Streamline Public Offices

Prime Minister Robert Fico says Slovakia’s fiscal consolidation will continue next year, with a new focus on combating tax evasion and improving tax collection efficiency. Speaking at the conference “Consolidation 2026: A Guarantee in the Fight Against Tax Fraud,” Fico said the first set of measures could be approved as early as December and take effect from January 2026.

“We must look closely at our shadow economy and adopt modern methods of tax collection and control. This is not only about enforcement, but also about prevention,” Fico said, noting that the Finance Ministry and Financial Administration are preparing several proposals that are currently being discussed with experts and practitioners.

Fico said the proposals will enter the political process for legislation before year-end and announced plans to streamline public administration, including a possible merger of the Antimonopoly and Public Procurement Offices and cutting advisory bodies that consume public funds. He also highlighted efforts to boost the economy and attract foreign investment, noting his upcoming trip to the UAE to discuss potential investments, particularly in the automotive sector.
