The ceremonial opening of the National Olympic Swimming Center Košice (NOCKE) will take place on Saturday (August 30) connected with a cultural program and an attempt to set a record during a 24-hour swim. The center will be the most modern swimming complex in Slovakia.
The official opening will take place Saturday at 6:00pm followed by the 24-hour swim marathon which is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. The marathon swim will attempt to set a record in the number of participants and meters swum.
"According to my information, more than 1,200 people are already registered who are interested in the 24-hour swim,” said Kosice Mayor Jaroslav Polaček. He recommends registering beforehand to avoid having to wait for a free lane to swim in.
According to the municipality, the first participant in the swimming relay will be long-distance swimmer Zuzana Jusková, who swam the English Channel, and other sports personalities will also join.
The mayor also informed about the entrance prices to NOCKE. During September, a 75-minute entry will cost four euros, and from October five euros. There will also be a 105-minute entry for 6.50 euros or a ticket for multiple entries and a total of 1500 minutes for 85 euros. NOCKE will be open during normal business hours from 6:00 to 21:00 and on weekends from 10:00 to 20:00.
The rebuilt city swimming pool includes, in addition to a 50-meter pool with ten swimming lanes and a 25-meter pool, a new engine room, fitness, wellness and more.
In the future there is a plan to connect NOCKE with the water polo pool and the Červená hviezda swimming pool, as well as create parking spaces.
"My goal for the future, and I believe that we will succeed next year, is to build the long-awaited toboggan tower and make the Červená hviezda swimming pool accessible as one huge complex," said Polaček.
Deputy Mayor Marcel Gibóda further informed about the ceremonial opening of the Košice Football Arena (KFA) training center and the exhibition football match Internacionali Slovakia - Hungary which will take place on Sunday (August 31) afternoon.
