The first group of Slovak nationals evacuated from the crisis-hit Middle East arrived in Slovakia on Monday. The group included 25 tourists and 5 embassy employees. The evacuation flight also transported 43 citizens from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Austria, Estonia, Spain, and Malaysia.
Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SSD) confirmed another evacuation flight is planned for Tuesday (17 June), to assist remaining Slovak citizens as well as nationals from Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, and France. On Wednesday (18 June), the repatriation will include family members of diplomats still in Tel Aviv, and citizens of Spain, Romania, Italy, Latvia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
The evacuations follow escalating hostilities in the region, where Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites have triggered ongoing retaliatory attacks, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties.
