Several children’s, youth, and student organizations are calling on President Peter Pellegrini to veto the recently passed amendment to the NGO law and return it to Parliament for revision. They argue that the bill imposes excessive bureaucracy, threatens donor trust and privacy, and creates legal uncertainty.
"Although presented as a step toward greater transparency, the amendment poses a significant threat to civil society, especially organizations providing leisure activities for young people," the organizations wrote in a letter to the President. They warned that further administrative burdens would demotivate young volunteers.
Several other NGOs have also urged the President to veto the amendment, which was approved by Parliament last week. Among other changes, it requires NGOs to publish transparency reports and disclose how they manage public funds.
