Austria has extended border controls with the Czech Republic and Slovakia for another six months, as a necessary measure to deter smugglers of illegal migrants and to fight against the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, the Austrian Interior Ministry reported on Wednesday.
"Border checks are and remain a decisive factor in the fight against illegal migration. The measures taken have significantly reduced illegal migration with the aim of reaching zero levels," declared Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.
