UPDATE: Due to strict measures, no new farms infected with foot-and-mouth

Slovakia has imposed strict measures to combat foot-and-mouth disease, banning hunting in restricted zones and allowing it elsewhere only under strict biosecurity rules. In affected areas, hunting, dog training, and group events are prohibited, while deceased animals must be reported and disposed of under veterinary supervision. The outbreak was confirmed last Friday in four villages in southern Slovakia—Medveďov, Ňárad, Baka, and Lúč na Ostrove—and likely spread from Hungary. In response, the government has declared a nationwide state of emergency.

The authorities continue monitoring the situation, urging strict adherence to biosecurity measures to prevent further spread. Experts warn that the outbreak could have severe economic consequences for Slovakia’s livestock industry.
