The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution, drafted by Ukraine and the European Union, condemning Russia on the third anniversary of its full-scale invasion. Slovakia, along with 93 other nations, supported the resolution, which the Slovak Foreign Ministry described as a compromise emphasizing adherence to international law, respect for borders, and territorial integrity.
The resolution identifies Russia as the aggressor and calls for the withdrawal of its troops from Ukraine. While General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding, they carry political significance by reflecting the global stance on the war.
Eighteen countries, including the United States, Russia, Belarus, and North Korea, voted against the resolution.
In response, the coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) urged Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) to investigate Slovakia’s vote at the UN. The SNS stated it is "principally" opposed to the resolution and criticized Slovak representatives for voting in contradiction to government policy.
