Radio Slovakia International has joined together with media outlets all over the world in spreading information and discussing the theme UNESCO picked for WRD for the year 2025. A few facts to remember on this occasion:
* UNESCO declared February 13 World Radio Day (WRD) in 2011.
* Various international research shows that radio is still the most trusted media in the world.
* The theme of WRD 2025 is climate change.
Why? Martina Greňová Šimkovičová asked Mirta Lourenço, the chief of the UNESCO Section for Media Development and Media in Emergency. According to Lourenço, World Radio Day in 2025 has no ambition to polarise society on the issue of whether climate change exists or not. The point is to make people listen to each other. The key notion of the occasion this year is conversation. Also, Nikoleta Hrušková from the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute talks about communication while explaining the role radio can play in slowing down versus accelerating climate change.
