The Defence Ministry is discussing a gradual increase in the annual allowance for defence spending, Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) stated on Wednesday after a government meeting, adding that he considers it necessary to develop dual projects while pointing to the large investment debts to the public.
The minister sees dual projects as an opportunity to better connect public use with their use by security forces. Kaliňák also reiterated that after the purchase of new F-16 fighter jets, Slovakia could take over the protection of its airspace again in the course of the year.
The minister also admitted that the ministry doesn't prefer the airport in Kuchyna-Malacky (Bratislava region) for organising the aviation days and believes that if the reconstruction processes at Sliač airport proceed quickly enough, international aviation days could take place there in 2027, or possibly in 2028. "Until then, we are considering Piešťany and Poprad [airports]," the minister hinted.
