Prime Minister Robert Fico has asked Elon Musk for information about U.S. grants given to NGOs and media in Slovakia. The PM claims that money from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was used for political purposes in Slovakia. Fico sent a letter to Musk, who leads the U.S. government efficiency commission, asking for details about funding received by Slovak organizations and journalists. He believes some grants were used to influence politics and wants to separate useful projects from political interference.
Fico is also open to meeting Musk in person to discuss this issue and other projects that could benefit Slovakia-U.S. relations. His request comes after Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to shut down USAID, which funds humanitarian and emergency aid worldwide.
