The shortage of jobs is considered by 56% of the Slovak population as the biggest problem. The problematic condition of roads and pavements comes second with 47%. This is according to a survey conducted by TNS agency in between 17 and 30 October, which focused on the problems raised by citizens at their place of residence.
As the third biggest problem respondents consider high levels of corruption (27 %), similar number of respondents reported transportation and parking as a problem as well as the lack of opportunities for leisure activities for children. The results revealed geographic differences, when the inhabitants of Bratislava region find the transport and parking situation as the most problematic, while people from other parts of Slovakia see problems in the lack of job opportunities. The survey revealed also differences in the perception of problems between the older and younger generation, when older respondents believe that corruption and nepotism among local politicians as more problematic than younger respondents. Local municipal elections will take place on Saturday, 15 November.
