Iveta Radičová, former Prime Minister of Slovakia, together with Ambassador Victor Ashe, former United States Ambassador to Poland, was leading the International Republican Institutes delegation, which observed Ukraine’s parliamentary elections over the past weekend.
When the SME daily asked Radičová about her motivation to observe the Ukrainian elections, the former Slovak PM replied that she went there for three reasons: “The first is that we cannot be indifferent to what is happening in a neighbouring country. We also cannot be indifferent to a situation where people are dying and there is war in Europe. That is the basic solidarity. Then there is one other reason - it's my profession. As a sociologist I received the call with great pleasure, that I can do this job fully deployed as I have the professional background for such monitoring. If you know how to bring hope even to a few people, that they are not alone in this situation, it gives you energy not to give up.”
Moreover, Radičová has commented on the fact that Ukraine has been choosing new parliamentary representatives with a note, that this parliament will rule in sort of an interwar period. It has the potential to maintain stability and peace, as far as it accepts new reforms and laws, she added.
