Opposition MP Ľudovít Kaník wants to dismiss Prime Minister Robert Fico for what he sees as Fico's dangerous pro-Russian stances regarding the crisis in Ukraine. Another group of Opposition lawmakers want to oust Labour, Social Affairs and Family Minister Jan Richter, citing the Star EU case – alleging party favouritism – as a reason.
Both proposals need to garner the support of at least 30 MPs, respectively, in order for a vote to be called. Whether Kaník will manage to collect the necessary 30 signatures from opposition colleagues remains to be seen. “I trust that Kaník is aware that such a serious matter needs to be discussed first at the level of party chairs”, said Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) vice-chair Pavol Abrhan. This view is not shared however by Laszlo Solymos (Most-Hid). "I, for one, don't think that we should dismiss the Prime Minister. This is a serious matter and there needs to be a consensus first."
MP Alojz Hlina (Independent) has almost collected all the signatures for calling for the dismissal of Labour Minister Jan Richter. The reason behind this is the subsidy of €23,000 given in August to the Liquidator Office of Rudolf Kruty with an aim to create four jobs. The SME daily reported that this company, offering external management for villages vis-a-vis administrative tasks regarding the drawing of Eurofunds, won 70 tenders out of 70, once the company was recommended to Smer mayors by then-Smer general secretary Jan Richter in March 2008.
