State wants increased stake in Slovenske Elektrarne (SE)

The state would be the best owner of Slovenske Elektrarne (SE), the largest energy utility company in Slovakia, according to the  Economy Minister Pavol Pavlis. He admitted that the state could try to purchase the 66-percent stake in SE, which the Italian energy giant Enel wants to sell.

The government is also considering acquiring an additional 17 percent stake in the dominant power producer Slovenske Elektrarne. It would thus obtain a majority along with the existing 34 percent stake it currently owns. “It is possible to get 17 percent of shares and thus have a majority, but we need a partner that would be interested in the remaining 49 percent stake,” said Prime Minister Robert Fico.
