A controversial film opened yesterday, called ‚War of the Police.‘ Director Rudolf Biermann based the script on a book by journalist and commentator Arpád Soltész.
The story of the film takes place in the 90s, mainly in eastern Slovakia. "But it rather maps what continues to this day, and that is the war in the armed forces. An inconspicuous, unspoken war, I don't think there are any significant shots being fired in it today, but there are many things that no one explains to the public," Biermann said.
The 2,5 hour film captures the wild atmosphere of the 90s in the east of Slovakia and mafia gangs covered by secret agreements with the Slovak Information Service (SIS).
The website CinemArt wrote: "David against Goliath - that's probably how you could describe the fight that will be led by captain Miky Miko (Alexander Bárta), a solitary police operative. The environment has shaped Miky so that he doesn't trust anyone."
Biermann earlier produced the very successful thriller Swine based on another book of Soltesz.
The War of the Police premiered in Kosice on 27 January, and in Bratislava this week.
