The winner of the Australian Tennis Open for juniors is Renata Jamrichová of Slovakia. In the final on Friday night she beat the local favorite Emerson Jones 6-4, 6-1. It looks like a walkover on paper but she had to recover from 1-4 down in the first set.
Jamrichova is sixteen, will turn 17 this year; her opponent Jones is 15.
"In the beginning, I was very nervous because we played in the Rod Laver Arena (central court at the Australian Open) and also for the audience. But then I said to myself: be happy on the court, enjoy every exchange, just be happy that you are here and can play this great match," said Jamrichová after the match.
After the match ended, Jamrichová went to her coach and then to her opponent, sat down next to her on the bench and hugged her.
Jamrichova gave Special thanks to her coach, who has been by her side since she was 8 years old.
